I like this poem, Roselyn May, but perhaps try not focusing so much on meter and more on style and maybe free-verse. I’m not against traditional form by any means. However, I think it’s important to experiment with free-verse to examine what’s poetic without the crutch of rhymes. Don’t get me wrong, rhyming and cadence and meter can elevate a poem, but simply rhyming doesn’t make a poem in my opinion. That’s my two cents.
